In 1979 when Simon left school he went to work on a large arable farm at Slingsby. He was a lad amongst 10 men and still says that it was the greatest influence on his career.
He completed a year at Bishop Burton doing Arable Machinery and Farm Management on day and block release.
In 1983 he bought his first baler a John Deere 550, and along with his late Father built a loyal customer base working from the family farm in Bransdale. Offering new techniques and machines has kept BHE at the forefront of agricultural contracting in North Yorkshire. Combination drilling, bale wrapping, shredder muck spreaders, chopper balers and Vaderstad drilling are some of the concepts introduced to Ryedale and Cleveland by Simon.
As well as agricultural contracting, farming has also become an important part of the business.Sheep and cattle are farmed on the MOD land at Strensall, and a large arable farm is also contract farmed at Kirkbymoorside.
